Role Overview

We are seeking a Backend Engineering Manager to lead the architecture, design, and development of our core backend systems. This role requires a balance of technical leadership, hands-on coding expertise, and team management skills to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure systems that power our products. You will take ownership of backend architecture and infrastructure, while mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead backend architecture and development using C# and Python
  • Ownership of database with MongoDB and PostgreSQL ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Drive scalable architecture on AWS (familiarity with Azure/GCP is a plus)
  • Oversee and optimize video streaming workflows and protocols for high performance and seamless user experience.
  • Ensure robust APM (Application Performance Management) and observability systems for monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Establish backend testing discipline, including unit, integration, and load testing
  • Enforce version control best practices and seamless CI/CD integration
  • Promote engineering best practices with a strong focus on technical excellence, security, and cost efficiency
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align technical strategy with business objectives
  • Guide and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Provide strong leadership, communication, and documentation to guide teams effectively
  • Drive a culture of empowerment, ownership, and accountability
  • Mentor and train engineers to ensure team success and growth
  • Maintain and optimize backend metrics and dashboards for performance visibility
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Frontend, Mobile, AI/ML, Design, and Sales/Marketing leads
  • Stay proactive in innovation through research and hands-on coding contributions
  • Foster a positive, product-driven culture aligned with Veel’s mission of excellence

    Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity
  • Strong foundation in software engineering principles and practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Highly motivated, curious, and driven to take ownership and lead initiatives
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Deep understanding of business objectives, customer needs, and evolving market trends
